K-M’s Peyton Suess (13) lobs a shot over the net while Emilee Terry (18) looks on. The Kasson-Mantorville volleyball team swept Triton on October 11 as part of what is now a 19-game winning streak.

KoMets’ streak hits 19

K-M’s dominance continues with Apple Valley title

The Kasson-Mantorville vollyball team seems ready for the stretch run. The KoMets have been on fire since a couple of early season defeats in Marshall and

after defeating Triton and winning the Apple Valley Classic tournament title, K-M will turn their attention to

a section tournament run after battling top ranked Stewartville on Tuesday.

“I think that our players just have a bit more confidence this year,” VanOort said when asked about his team’s play.

“We’ve got a good group of players that have all been playing at the varsity level for a few years now and they are confident and aggressive and able to play a more consistent brand of volleyball than what we’ve seen in the past.”

The week started for K-M with a road contest against HVL foe Triton. The short bus ride was a happy one after the KoMets dominated the Cobras through three sets. It was a Suess show in Dodge Center as Peyton led the team with 12 assists while younger sister Mya recorded 10 kills to go with four blocks.

Anna Braun (17 assists, six digs) and Maddie Converse

(19 assists, seven digs) did a terrific job of setting up their teammates on the evening while Bailey Berge also played tremendous defense with 12 digs. Caroline Braun and McKenzie Evans each added five kills as the KoMets made short work of Triton winning in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-7 and 25-16.

The KoMets continued their run of impressive play by heading to the Apple Valley Classic and simply doing their jobs against lesser teams.

K-M’s tournament began with victories against Legacy Christian and Minneapolis Southwest in pool play on Friday night before defeating

Burnsville and Clayton in the finals to take home the tournament title.

In all four matches, the KoMets didn’t drop a single sit and haven’t lost a set since September 25 against Kenyon-Wanamingo. In fact, the KoMets have not lost a single best-of-five match all season long and hope to continue that trend come playoff time.

The KoMets section run got a big tune-up on Tuesday night as they hosted Stewartville at Home Federal Arena.Tigers, who entered Tuesday’s showdown with a 21-1 record match of the season last weekend at the Lakeville North tournament aganst East Ridge.

That matchup should not only determine the HVL championship, but also playoff seeding as the KoMets look to establish momentum for the Section 1AA Tournament which begins next week.

“It’s always exciting to play other great teams whether it’s Stewartville or any of the top teams in the state,” VanOort said. “It gives us the opportunity to make plays that we wouldn’t have the chance to make against lower competition. We are always excited to have the opportunity to test ourselves in those situations and then learn from the e ardless of

whether we win or lose the match.”
