Spring softball season gets under way

Once again, avoiding the cold and blustery weather conditions, the Kasson-Mantorville softball girls played their second game of the season, in a dome. This time it was in the Austin Packer Dome, and their opponent was the Byron Lady Bears. On Tuesday, April 4, the KoMets battled a formidable Byron team, and the Bears prevailed, 7-2.

“We were able to battle through some early adversity and come out with a good win. We had six girls playing in their first varsity game, so it was good to see them respond the way they did,” said Byron Coach Jacob Harmon.

The energy was high for this rival game.

The KoMets tapped the scoreboard in the second inning, when Aliana DuBois hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring the game’s first run. Byron responded quickly in the third inning, when Tallie Behrens singled on the first pitch she saw, scoring one run. Macy Borowski followed with a single, plating the second run, and Mia Borowski singled on a 2-2 count, scoring run number three. The Bears continued that momentum with four runs in the fifth frame.

Macy Borowski was credited with the victory for the Bears, pitching seven innings, allowing four hits and two runs, while striking out 14 KoMets. Ella Babcock took the loss, surrendering eight hits and seven runs over seven innings, striking out a dozen. Byron scattered eight hits in the game, with Macy and Mia Borowski each gathering multiple hits for the Bears.
