Byron’s softball girls are peaking at the right time. On Tuesday, May 23, the girls toppled Austin, 15-0, in the Section 1AAA Championship bracket quarterfinals, at Byron High School.

Macy Borowski was brilliant in the pitcher’s circle on Tuesday, as she threw a no-hitter to lead Byron to victory. Mackenzie Steele had five RBIs, driving in runs on a home run in the first and a single in the third. Byron notched seven runs in the third inning.

The big bats were led by Leeah Strain, Borowski, Tallie Behrens, Schultz, and Steele, who all racked-up RBIs. Borowski earned the win, allowing zero hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out nine and walking zero. Abigail VanPelt threw one and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.

On Thursday, May 25, the Bears stopped a tough Kasson- Mantorville team, 5-1, in the championship bracket semifinals at Austin’s Todd Park. Macy Borowski earned the
win, going seven innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out 15 and walking zero.

The Byron girls now play on Wednesday, May 31, versus the Winona Winhawks, in the Section 1AAA Championship Bracket Finals.

K-M girls
in playoffs

The Kasson-Mantorville softball team began its playoff journey on Tuesday, May 23, versus Red Wing, at Kasson-Mantorville Senior High School. It was the Section 1AAA Championship Bracket Quarterfinals round, and the KoMets defeated the Wingers, 4-2. K-M grabbed the lead late in the game and held on for the win. The game was tied at two with the KoMets batting in the bottom of the fifth, when senior Aubrey Grover singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Playing her final game on a K-M Field, senior Ella Babcock earned the victory on the rubber for the KoMets. She worked seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out 12 and walking zero. Abbott, Grover, and Simons, each collected one hit to lead the victors.

Thursday, May 25, saw the KoMets battle Byron, at Austin’s Todd Park, in semifinal action. It was the Bears who prevailed, by a final tally of 5-1. Macy Borowski took the win, going seven innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out 15 and walking zero. Ella Babcock started the game for Kasson-Mantorville. The right-hander surrendered five runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out one. K-M launched one home run on the day, courtesy of Calleigh Richards’ four-bagger in the seventh inning. Fitch and Richards each had one hit to lead the KoMet kids on the day.

Later on Thursday, K-M defeated Faribault, 12-2, in the elimination quarterfinal round. A four RBI day for Aubrey Grover, sparked the KoMets on to victory. She drove in runs on a triple in the third and a home run in the fifth. Kasson-Mantorville scored five runs in the fifth inning, thanks to the RBI production from Andria Fitch and Grover. Ella Babcock earned the win for the K-M girls. She lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out five and walking zero. Kasson-Mantorville smacked one home run on the day, as Grover touched ‘em all in the fifth inning.

The Kasson-Mantorville fast-pitch girls play on Tuesday, May 30, against a formidable Stewartville squad, at Todd Park, in the Section 1AAA Elimination Bracket Semifinals.
