Softball Bears, KoMets, Vikings get wins

Lady Bears overwhelm Wildcats

It was a no contest affair for the Byron softball girls last Thursday, April 13, as they glided to a 16-0 victory over Goodhue. (Byron: 9,4,1,0,2—16; 16 runs, 10 hits, 0 errors; Goodhue: 0,0,0,0,0—0; 0 runs, 0 hits, 9 errors)

Vikings split
the week

The Hayfield softball girls ended last week with a win and a loss. On Thursday, April 13, the Lady Vikes bested Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, 14-7. Saturday saw Plainview-Elgin-Millville overwhelm the Hayfield girls, 19-9. That moves the Vikings to 2-2 overall.

K-M softball enjoys winning week

It was a fun and fruitful week for the Kasson-Mantorville softball team. Fun, because it was gorgeous weather conditions. Fruitful, because the girls picked-up a couple of victories along the way.

On Thursday, April 13, the KoMets topped Rochester Lourdes, 7-5; and on Friday, the K-M kids edged Faribault, 10-9.

Lourdes Game: In the first inning, Kasson-Mantorville got their offense started, when Aubrey Grover doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. The KoMets tallied three runs in the fourth inning. K-M’s big inning was driven by singles from a trio of juniors — Abby Simons, Rebekah Burch and Andria Fitch. Senior Ella Babcock was credited with the victory, allowing six hits and five runs over seven innings, and striking out 12.

Anna Wieneke was in the pitcher’s circle for Rochester Lourdes. Wieneke lasted 2 2/3 innings, surrendering eight hits and six runs, while fanning two. Eagles’ Amelie Dohlman threw 3 1/3 innings in relief. The KoMets scattered 11 hits on the day.

Faribault Game: Kasson-Mantorville captured a 10-9 victory in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a fielder’s choice at game’s end. Down 9-3 and heading into the bottom of the 7th inning, the KoMets scored 6 runs to force extra innings.

The game was tied at nine with K-M batting in the bottom of the eighth, when freshman Allie Graunke hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring junior Alianna DuBois, for the win. The KoMets collected nine hits and the Falcons had 11, in the high-scoring affair.

Phenom Ella Babcock was credited with the victory for Kasson-Mantorville. She went eight innings, allowing nine runs on 11 hits and striking out ten. Sietsema took the loss for Faribault, going 1 1/3 innings. Aly Cook started the game for the Falcons. Cook lasted 6 1/3 innings, enabling seven hits and seven runs, while striking out six.
