Lighted scoreboard installed at North Park

There is a new lighted scoreboard at the softball fields at North Park in Dodge Center, thanks to the efforts of Venon Softball.

The necessary electrical work was recently done in connection with Xcel Energy’s installation of fiber optic cable in the area.

The group also hopes to be able to construct a concession stand at the site in the future.

The organization has been actively involved in a number of projects in the area and working with the Claremont, Dodge Center and West Concord communities to enhance softball fields in all three communities, according to Chris Pluto, who has been active in all the organization’s projects.

The goal with the softball fields, he said, is to have facilities in each community that can be used by Triton’s softball team as well as multiple locations to host larger softball tournaments during the summer months.

The group has also been instrumental in improvements at the West Concord fields and is now working with Claremont to upgrade their softball facilities.

Venom softball raises funds through a variety of activities including a fall raffle now under way in conjunction with the Mantorville Restoration Association. The drawing will be held at 3 p.m. on November 18 at Harold’s Club in Dodge Center with the first prize a 2023 Polaris Sportsman 450 ATV.
