Area baseball teams take to the diamond

HAYFIELD — This crazy Minnesota weather makes for many changes in our scheduled routines, and it had a hand in relocating the Byron baseball team’s game versus Cherry. On Friday, April 14, the Bears found themselves playing the Cherry Tigers on a Hayfield diamond.

Since it was one of the better-groomed fields in the area, Byron played in the last of three games there that day. It made no difference to the Bears, as they handled the Tigers, 16-5. That keeps the Byron boys undefeated in the young season.

Byron opens season with win

LA CRESCENT — The baseball Bears began the baseball season in style, with a 6-2 victory over the La Crescent-Hokah Lancers, on Monday, April 10.

“Reid Bielen started on the mound for us. He looked strong and pounded the strike zone. He pitched into the 5th inning. Gavin Bartel came in to get a strikeout and end a La Crescent threat in the 5th. Bartel closed out the rest of the game for us,” said Coach Jordan Bale.

The Kasson-Mantorville baseball boys battled an unbeaten Stewartville Tigers team on Thursday, April 13, and the Tigers emerged victorious by an 11-4 final tally.

Vikings win two, drop one

Everyone was enjoying the beautiful weather so much, they decided to play a triple-header in Hayfield on Friday, April 14. The first game featured Hayfield vs Cherry, and the Vikings won, 9-7. Game two saw Hayfield take on Blooming Prairie, and it was an 11-1 win for the Vikes. The third game was a battle between Cherry and Byron.

On Saturday, Hayfield fell to Fillmore Central/Lanesboro, 13-4.

Tritons’ baseball team was defeated by Zumbrota-Mazeppa, 19-0, last Friday, April 14. Never really able to get into the groove, the Cobras managed just one hit on the day.
