DC picks Colorado man

Council names Josh Tetzlaff as new city administrator

A few months ago the City of Dodge Center began its search for a new city administrator after Lee Mattson left to take a post in Waseca.

After an intensive search, and application process the city council and mayor unanimously voted on Monday to name Josh Tetzlaff as its new city administrator, pending successful contract negotiations.

As part of the process of finding a new administrator, the council relied on a consultant company to spearhead the search, which included things like finding quality candidates, setting up the vetting process, and helping the council with the process in general.

One of the things that took place after the council came up with six finalists was inviting the different candidates to the city, where they went on a tour of the city, had a panel interview with the mayor and city council, as well as getting to interact with city staff and the community.

This day took place last week and after the different activities and interviews, the council heard confidential feedback from staff and community members through summaries prepared by the consultant, which she read to the council during a special council meeting.

After the feedback summaries were read about each candidate, the council was asked to rank its top two candidates on a piece of paper, which was then given to the consultant so the process would be confidential.

After the votes were counted, it was determined with a vote of 4-1 that Josh Tetzlaff would be the number one candidate.

After some discussion, it was determined that the city council did not feel confident at that time to extend an offer to its top candidate because he was not able to attend in person to the different interactive activities that day and instead did his interview with the council via Skype.

Despite this, council members decided to offer him the chance to visit the town and go through the same process as the other candidates which took place on Monday.

“We felt strongly enough about you to invite you to come in person,” said Mayor Ketchum, to Tetzlaff at the beginning of his public interview.

While his contract will be negotiated some of the things brought up during the special council meeting were salary, moving expenses, and vacation time.

If the council reaches a tentative agreement with Tetzlaff, the final contract will be voted on during the next council meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov.13 at 7 p.m.

The DCI will continue to provide information on this story as it becomes available and will provide updates from the meeting next Tuesday online.
