Survival Days 2024 starts July 25

West Concord’s annual Survival Days celebration gets under way next Thursday, July 25, with the Guns vs Hoses Charity Softball event where Dodge County law enforcement officers take on the Firefighters and EMS personnel.

The game will begin at 7 p.m. at the softball field on Highway 56. All donations will go to Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention.

Friday will see a full day of activity with the ever-popular coffee and homemade donuts available from 7 to 11 a.m. at the American Legion Hall on Main Street. City-wide garage sales begin at 8 a.m., continuing through the day Friday and again on Saturday. The West Concord Historical Society will be having an open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Activity picks up at 5 p.m. when the food stands and Beer Garden will open. At 5:30 p.m. there will be 3 on 3 basketball tournament in Memorial Park and a Garden Tractor Pull on Front Street at 6 p.m. The bean bag tournament begins with registration at 6:30 p.m. and a start time of 7 p.m. Location is at the grass lot by Lions Park by the Bell Tower Center with the Fire Hall as the rain location.

Also at Lions Park by the Bell Tower Center, the Miss West Concord Pageant and the announcement of the Mayor’s Key Award, Citizen of the Year, and winners of the Baby Contest will begin at 6:30 p.m. In case of rain the event will be inside Trinity Church.

“In the Fields” will be providing the music in the Big Tent from 8 a.m. to midnight. Admission is $10 or a Survival Days Button. The Beer Garden will have a last call at 12:30 a.m. and close at 1 a.m.

Old favorites and new favorites are on tap for Saturday. Food stands open at 11 a.m. and the Beer Garden at 2 p.m.

Participants in the Meat Smoking Competition will get an early start at 7 a.m. in front of the Gochnauer Dairy Barn. At 7:30 a.m. registration begins for the LaMae’s Bright Light 5k Run/Walk with the event starting and ending at Lions Park.

A variety of events begin at 8 a.m. including the city-wide garage sales, the Fire Department Burrito Breakfast and the Scott Hodgman Classic Car & Bike Show on Main Street.

There will be a sand volleyball tournament beginning at 9 a.m.

West Concord Historical Society’s Open House resumes from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be an Antique Tractor Pull, south of the Gochnauer Dairy Barn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a Fun on the Farm Petting Zoo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gochnauer Dairy Barn on the west end of Main St.
