At Triton, the ag program is going to be producing the lettuce served in the cafeteria this year via the school’s hydroponics lab. “They grow lettuce with grow lights,” said Craig Schlichting, superintendent of Triton Public Schools. “It’ll be great once it’s up and running.”
In Hayfield, something to look forward to this school year is a new industrial tech teacher. Superintendent Gregg Slaathaug said the ag teacher has been doing both jobs for years.
A new interim superintendent is leading the way and making news headlines for K-M. “The new interim superintendent will be a major change,” said Karlyn Petersen with the school district. The new interim superintendent for K-M is David Thompson.
Enrollment at Triton will be 950 students, Hayfield will have 680 students and K-M will have 2,195. For K-M, enrollment is up at every grade level, Petersen said.
Triton is welcoming 13 new teachers, Hayfield is welcoming 7 and K-M 22.
“Everyone is excited for the school year,” Slaathaug said. “We are hoping to get better every single day, every single week, every single month and every single year.”
Byron students headed back to the classroom this week. Byron’s enrollment for the coming school year is 2,310 students. There are 12 new teachers and six new paraprofessionals joining the staff.
