New florist opens doors in Kasson
After years of working out of her home, Jill Bondhus has opened a store in Kasson.
Called Petals2Metals, she carries flowers, plants and salvaged treasures. Down the road at her 2,400-square-foot shop, she’ll also start offering classes.
“When I would go to shows and sell, I would have customers ask me all the time ‘Are you going to have a store? Are you going to have a store?’ So I think there was a need,” she said.
Located at 19 West Main St. in Kasson, Petals2Metals is bigger than it looks from the outside, Bondhus said. She opened the shop earlier in May and has already enjoyed good foot traffic.
Her salvaged treasures, as she calls them, are items she’s bought and upcycled, creating something new and different. Or it might be a piece of furniture she’s repainted.
She shops for items to upcycle at auctions, thrift stores and garage sales. Bondhus officially registered her business in 2021, and lives just outside Mantorville.
Between May and October, many of her fresh flowers come from her own expansive garden. “You can’t get any fresher than that,” she said. “It won’t be long and peonies will be in bloom.”
She has 40 peony plants, she said. Earlier this spring the focal flowers were tulips and daffodils. Bondhus also has a flower wholesaler she goes through to make sure she has plenty of choices.
“We’re new and we’re happy to be in Kasson,” she said. “People have really been fantastic.”
“This is something fun to bring to Kasson,” she added.
Her day job to help pay the bills is as a 911 Operational Coordinator for the state of Minnesota, which is a job she does from her home just outside of Mantorville.
Official storefront hours at Petals2Metals are Thursday and Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Customers can call 507-535-9232 to place orders at any time.
