Navigating Dodge County’s only local newspaper
It’s with great excitement that we make this edition of the Dodge County Independent available to every household in the county. It’s time to become acquainted with this countywide newspaper.
As a helpful tool, we’d like to share some information with you to help you navigate the DCI and use it to your fullest potential. Many of the questions below come from people who want to know more about our publication.
How often is the Dodge County Independent published?
The DCI is a weekly newspaper coming out on Wednesday afternoons and distributed to most subscribers via U.S. Mail on Thursdays.
We also have a strong on-line presence in which we share breaking news and sports, updated news stories and obituaries throughout the week at www.dodgecountyindependent.com.
Why did I get a newspaper this week if I don’t subscribe?
This week we are sending the newspaper to nearly every household in Dodge County and western Olmsted County as a way for you to become acquainted with us. This week’s paper is representative of the kind of news you can expect each and every week. We would love to count you among our growing reader base.
How many people read the Dodge County Independent?
Our circulation is at about 1,600. This newspaper is unlike the ADvantage shopper you have likely seen over the years.
What can I expect from the Dodge County Independent each week?
Our newspaper is packed with community news, sports and feature stories from all communities within Dodge County, including Kasson, Mantorville, Dodge Center, Hayfield, West Concord and Claremont, as well as Byron in Olmsted County. We provide hometown news of people that matter most to you—friends, neighbors and people in your community. We are 100% local with everything we do.
How do I subscribe?
There are four easy ways to subscribe to the weekly newspaper:
• In person- at our office in Kasson (301 S. Mantorville Ave., Suite 200).
• By phone- call us at 507-634-7503 and we’d be glad to take payment over the phone.
• On-line- you can go to www.dodgecountyindependent.com and click on the “subscribe” button on the right side at the very top.
• Mail- send payment to Dodge County Independent, 301 S. Mantorville Ave., Suite 200, Kasson, MN 55944.
You will find a subscription form on the front page of this week’s newspaper. Simply cut it out and return it to us with payment.
For those who would prefer to access the newspaper on-line instead of a printed copy, we offer the E-Edition, which is an electronic form of the entire newspaper. The E-Edition is generally available late Wednesday afternoon. Call our office at 507-634-7503 for more details.
How do I place an advertisement?
We have qualified people to help you with your advertisements. You can reach out to us by coming into our office, calling us or emailing to email@example.com.
Can I submit a letter to the editor?
Yes, we always accept letters to the editor or guest columns. However, they must be signed and contact information must be given to us so we can verify the letter or column. Letters are generally 300 words or less and columns can go up to 500 words.
Where is the newspaper printed?
Our newspaper is printed in Madelia at the House of Print, which prints roughly 35 newspapers across southern Minnesota as well as several daily newspapers throughout the region. Readers have often commented about the excellent print quality of our newspaper.
How big is your news staff and what experience does it offer?
We have a team of an editor and several freelance writers with years of experience. We feel fortunate to offer dedicated and talented journalists who share a strong passion for community news.
Isn’t the newspaper industry dying?
Absolutely not! We are living proof that the industry can thrive and will be around for many years to come. Just like any industry, ours has experienced challenges in recent years. But we are confident that being hyper-local will allow newspapers to survive. We continue to grow as readers want to be connected to their communities and know what’s going on.
