Lions bestow Citizens of the Year award to library staff
Things look a little different this year for the Dodge Center Citizen of the Year award.
This year, the award goes to three people rather than one. The staff at the Dodge Center Public Library was awarded the Citizens of the Year award by the Dodge Center Lions in June.
Among those honored were Ingvild Herfindahl, Maddy Bulow and Valerie Rewald, all library staff. The women were notified in May that they’d won, and they were honored on June 24.
They haven’t celebrated their achievement yet, but plan to do so, Herfindahl said.
“We will,” she said. “Right now, we’re in the middle of summer reading so it’s very hectic and every minute here we’re running around doing things. As soon as it calms down, we’ll celebrate.”
Herfindahl, the library director, said she and her colleagues are touched to receive the award.
“We’re very honored for the recognition the Lions Club gave us,” she said. “I thought it was very appropriate because the motto of the Lions is ‘We serve,’ and one of the missions of the library is to serve the community.”
Wendy Stroebl of Kasson nominated the library staff for the Citizens of the Year award.
