Triton football players, Dodge Center and Kasson Lions and neighbors all chipped in to carry bags of cement at Lions Park.

DC Lions Complete Phase I Of Park Project

Members of the Dodge Center and Kasson Lion Clubs, the Triton High School football team and neighbors and friends descended on the Lions Park site in Dodge Center last month and when the weekend was over Phase I of the project had been completed.

The park is located in the neighborhood across the road from the Triton school and has been in the planning and fundraising stage for several years, said Lion Carol Johnson. Johnson, along with Lion members Chris Pluto, Dave Wahlstrom and Dan Weise, spearheaded the park effort.

“It’s been a great community project,” Johnson said. Most city businesses and many residents donated the money to make the project a success, she said.

The park, she explained, is a neighborhood city park but the Lions raised the money for the playground equipment and did the installation. The park is maintained by the City of Dodge Center.

All the playground equipment, she said, meets the standards set by the Americans With Disabilities Act.

With Phase I completed, she said, the club will now move ahead with plans for Phase II which will include building a picnic shelter on an adjacent lot provided for the project by McNeilus Properties.

Looking out  even further, she said, the club would like, provided the city approves, to at some point add a neighborhood skating rink to the site.
