A day for art in Mantorville
It was definitely a day for art in Mantorville last Saturday, courtesy of the Larger than Life Foundation, the Mantorville Art Guild and the Mantorville Theatre Company.
The afternoon began with Meet the Artists Day at the Larger than Life exhibit at Riverside Park as several of the artists who created the works on display were present to talk with the visitors as they wandered among the larger than life works set up in the park.
In addition to chatting with the artists, Nancy Tobiason-Kramer was on hand to provide musical entertainment and the Mantorville Art Guild had supplies available to create your very own plein air painting.
The Larger than Life exhibit features 16 artworks and one sculpture. The artists participating are all from in and around Dodge County and include works of photography, acrylic, watercolor, cut and paste and welded steel. The artists submitted their works for consideration. The juried selections were enlarged to 4 ft x 8ft, attached to steel posts and driven into the ground to stabilize them. They will be on display at the park until September 1.
Later in the afternoon, the Mantorville Art Guild held a reception at their gallery on Highway 57 to honor Kirk Hoaglund, the owner of the building, who donated the property to the Art Guild.
Theresa Hoaglund originally had a gift shop in the building that now houses the Art Guild. The Mantorville Art Guild was originally housed in another building across the alley, she said. The Hoaglund’s sold the two buildings to their son, Kirk, she said.
