K-M School Board race sees multiple candidates

There will be a number of school board and city council seats up for grabs this November, but thus far, there have been a limited number of candidates who have filed for office.

Individuals interested in seeking positions on city councils and school boards may now officially file to get their name on the November 5 ballot.

The filing period opened on July 30 and continues through the end of business on August 13.

Locally, filings are open for the cities of Byron, Claremont, Dodge Center, Hayfield, Kasson, Mantorville, and West Concord. Filings are also open for positions in the Byron, Hayfield, Kasson-Mantorville, and Triton school districts.

The filing fee for all positions is $2.

City Council Positions:

Byron

In Byron seats held by Mayor Daryl Glassmaker and council members Dan Mesenburg and Steven Cook are up for election this year.

Glassmaker, Mesenburg and Steven Cook have all filed for re-election.

File at city hall, 680 Byron Main Ct NE.

Claremont

In Claremont, the seats now held by Mayor Tasha Dahl, and Council Members Jacob Klejeski Deb Ellis are open. Candidates may file at City Hall, 140 W. Front St., Claremont.

According to City Administrator Elizabeth Sorgno one has filed for office as of Monday.

Dodge Center

The positions now held by Council Members Matt Maas and Cathy Skogen are open. Candidates may file at the Dodge Center City Hall.

According to the Secretary of State’s website no candidates have filed for office.

Hayfield

The City Council seats currently held by Steve Feise and Arnold (Al) Anderson are up for election. Candidates may file at Hayfield City Hall, 18 W. Main St., Hayfield.

No candidates have filed for office as of Tuesday, according to the Secretary of State website.

Kasson

City council seats held by Dan Eggler, and Mel Ferris, and Mayor Chris McKern are up for grabs this year. All are four-year terms.

So far, no candidates have filed for office, at the time of deadline, according to the Secretary of State website.

Candidates may file at City Hall, 401 5th St SE, Kasson.

Mantorville

Seats open are mayor, two-year term; once councilmember, two-year continuation of vacated four-year term; and two council members, two-year terms. Current Mayor is Chuck Bradford, Councilmembers are Lyle Hoaglund and Lynnette Nash.

No candidates have filed for office at the time of deadline for this story, according to the Secretary of State website.

Filings can be made at City Hall, 5th St. E., Mantorville.

West Concord

In West Concord seats up for grabs are currently occupied by council members Jeffery Burse, Collin Ripley, and Mayor Jeffrey McCool.

Nicholas Kilen filed for the council Monday, according to the city administrator.

File with city clerk, 180 Main Street, PO Box 435, West Concord.

School Board Positions:

Byron

School Board seats up for election this year are those currently held by Heather Holmes, Lisa Jessen, Duane Quam III, and Matt Prigge.

No candidates have filed for office at the time of deadline for this story, according to the Secretary of State website.

Candidates can file at the District office Monday through Thursday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Prospective candidates may make an appointment or drop by the District Office.
