Byron school board officially sets Nov. 5 levy vote
Byron’s school board finalized plans for a November levy vote Monday night, passing a resolution approving the referendum and calling for a special election for November 5.
The board had approved the levy referendum at the July meeting but needed time to work out the exact numbers and wording for the ballot question. That information must be submitted to the state by mid-August to get the question on the November 5 election.
Voters in the district will be asked to approve a levy to increase the district’s general education revenue by $800 per pupil, subject to an annual increase at the rate of inflation. It will first be levied in 2024 for taxes payable in 2025 and applicable for 10 years unless otherwise revoked or reduced as provided by law.
The amount each property owner is levied is estimated to be at 0.14172% of the property’s assessed value for taxable payable in 2024. For a home with a market value of $350,000, the average price of a home in the district, that would translate to a tax of $496 a year or $41 a month.
