Public meeting July 20 in Dodge Center on Hwy 14 project
The public is invited to attend a public meeting on July 20 to learn more about a construction project to improve safety for all users on Highway 14 from Dodge Center to Byron, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The meeting will be held from 6 — 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 20 at the American Legion at 401 Hwy St. W, Dodge Center. Information will be provided about the construction timeline, detours, and how to navigate a J-turn intersection (also known as a Reduced Conflict Intersection or RCI). There is no presentation; attendees may arrive and depart at any time.
People unable to attend the meeting will be able to review the information and ask questions on the project website.
In spring 2024, construction will begin on Highway 14 from Dodge Center to Byron. Construction is planned to end in summer 2024.
The project aims to improve safety for all users by:
Constructing a J-turn (also known as a Reduced Conflict Intersection or RCI) at County Road 9
Installing a high-tension cable median barrier from Dodge Center to Kasson
Resurfacing pavement between Kasson and Byron
Improve and repair drainage
Rehabilitate Highway 14 bridges over Highway 57
Upgrade the Road Weather Information System (RWIS) site near Byron
The Highway 14 and County Road 9 intersection has experienced 18 crashes in the past 10 years, including three involving injuries and one fatality. The multi-lane crossing and high traffic speeds contribute to the risk of severe crashes. Building a J-turn intersection will help mitigate the risk
