On May 6, University of Minnesota Extension master gardeners worked with Fairview employees to remove sod from the location, which is large enough for 14 ten by ten foot garden plots. Carson Beaver ran the sod cutter while Mary Devroy, Don Pogalz, Pam Fuller, Nichole Erickson and Seanne Buckwalter moved the sod rolls. See story on Page 2.

Memorial Day observances planned in Dodge County

Memorial Day observances are scheduled in Dodge County communities and Byron on Monday.

Kasson

In the Kasson and Mantorville area, the American Legion will hold services at cemeteries beginning at 8 a.m. at Rock Dell. From there they will go to East St. Olaf at 8:15 a.m., South Zumbro at 8:30 a.m., Maple Grove at 8:55 a.m., Milton at 9:20 a.m., Berne at 9:45 a.m., the Mantorville Bridge at 10:10 a.m., St. Margaret’s Mantorville at 10:25 a.m. and Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville at 10:35 a.m.

The Memorial Day program will be held at the Minnesota WiFi Performing Arts Center at the Kasson-Mantorville High School following the stops at area cemeteries.

Before the official start of the ceremony at 11 a.m., the Kasson-Mantorville High School Band will be playing patriotic music.

Rose Harris will give the welcome and lead the pledge at 11 a.m. with the invocation given by Steve Larson of Community Celebration Church.

The High School band will perform the National Anthem, followed by David Oolman reading “In Flanders Field.” Enner Fjerstad will then sing “Glory Be Old Glory and Oolman will read Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.

Guest Speaker for the program will be Abigail Espelding.

The band will play the Military Services Medley followed by the memorial wreath presentation and an additional musical selection by the High School band.

The Firing Squad Salute and TAPS by the Kasson-Mantorville American Legion will conclude the ceremony.

Everyone is welcome to the free will offering lunch after the ceremony at the Kasson Legion Post, Upper Level, in Kasson.

Byron

Byron American Legion Post 119 will hold remembrance events at several local cemeteries.

They will be at Orthelo Cemetery at 8 a.m., Douglas Cemetery at 8:30 a.m., New Hope Cemetery at 9 a.m. and Byron at 10 a.m.

In case of rain the program will be held at 10 a.m. at Community Celebration Church, 27337 County Highway 34, Kasson. Please use the west entrance.

Dodge Center

The Memorial Day program in Dodge Center will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery. The speaker will be Rev. Robert Porisch and the Triton High School band will provide the music.

At 10 a.m. there will be a quick ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Dodge and at 10:20 a.m. a quick ceremony at the Wasioja River for those fallen at sea.

There will be a program at the Wasioja Cemetery at 10:35 a.m. with Rev. Porisch as the speaker and the Wasioja Seminary Program at 11 a.m.

All times are approximate and in case of rain the programs will be at the Dodge Center Legion and Wasioja Church.

Hayfield

Hayfield American Legion Post 330 will hold Memorial Day Services at area cemeteries.

They will be at Trinity Church in Waltham at 8:05 a.m., St. Michael’s in Waltham at 8:25 a.m., Greenwood, south of Brownsdale on Highway 56, at 8:50 a.m., Waltham Cemetery, south of Waltham on Highway 56 at 9:15 a.m., St. John’s, south of Sargeant at 9:35 a.m. (coffee), Evanger at 10:10 a.m., West St. Olaf, (Coffee) at 10:25 a.m., Fairview in Hayfield at 11:10 a.m.

The Memorial Day program will be held at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Hayfield at 11:30 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the program will be moved to the Hayfield High School gym.

A chicken dinner will be served at the Legion from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

West Concord

West Concord American Legion Langemo Post 295 will begin the morning with a short service at Hegre Cemetery at 51939 Highway 56, north of West Concord. At 9:15 a.m. they will be at St. Vincent Cemetery, 20258 Highway 56, north of West Concord. They will arrive at the Concord Cemetery at 20258 T-92 in Concord at 10:30 a.m.

In case of inclement weather a program will be held at 10 a.m. at the West Concord Historical Museum and Community Center, 600 W. First St.

The Legion and Auxiliary invite everyone to the Legion Hall at 133 East Main Street from 9 to 10 a.m. for refreshments.
