Highway 57 detour begins April 17 in Kasson
Detours will return to Kasson next week as the second year of a construction project begins on Highway 57. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced the detour will begin Monday, April 17, and continue in to July.
This summer’s work includes finishing up last year’s highway reconstruction project as well as construction of roundabouts.
Highway 57 reconstruction project
The final year of the two-year construction project is scheduled to begin April 17 and end in July, weather permitting. It includes all reconstruction work from south of Veterans Memorial Highway/Dodge County Road 34 to just north of 1st Street NE, including the roundabout at County Road 34 and the mini roundabout at Main Street.
The work in 2022 included all reconstruction work from just north of 1st Street NE to north of 11th Street NE.
The second part of this summer’s work includes construction of a roundabout at Highway 57 and 16th Street.
In addition to construction of the roundabout, this project will make watermain, sanitary sewer and storm sewer improvements, improve accessibility for pedestrians and construct a trail connection.
This work is a local partnership project and is being led by the city of Kasson.
Detours are for through traffic. Motorists wanting reach destinations in Kasson may utilize portions of the detour to get to those locations.
Detour for Highway 57 traffic traveling north: Turn left on 4th Street SW, turn right on 2nd Avenue SW, turn left on County Road 34 (County Road 34 turns into 8th Avenue SW/County Road 21), turn right on County Road 12, which takes motorists back to Highway 57. Highway 57 traffic traveling south will use the same detour in reverse. Motorists wanting to reach downtown Kasson can utilize the detour and continue north of 2nd Avenue SW instead of turning on County Road 34.
Detour for pedestrians going north: Turn left on 2nd Street SW, turn left on County Road 34, turn right on 2nd Avenue SW, turn right on West Main Street, turn left on 1st Avenue NW, turn right on 2nd Street NW which takes pedestrians to Highway 57. Pedestrians going south will use the same detour in reverse.
In addition to the work on Highway 57, the city of Kasson has several construction projects of its own scheduled for summer.

Project: Reconstruction of the following roadways
2nd Street SW (from 8th Ave SW to 3rd Ave SW)
4th Avenue NE (from 7th St NE to 3rd St NE)
4th Avenue NE (from 3rd St NE to 1st St NE)
6th Street Court NE (Cul-de-sac)
6th Avenue NE (from 7th St NE to 3rd St NE)
8th Avenue NE (from 140’ east of 4th St NE to 3rd St NE)
No extended closures or detours are anticipated. Roadways along the project area may be closed for a few days during daylight hours for paving operations.
During the summer break at Kasson-Mantorville schools, the city will also be constructing trails, pedestrian ramps and pedestrian actuated crossing signals around the K-M school campus.
