Area’s first birthing center breaks ground in Kasson
The region’s first birthing center will open November 1,
if the build-out remains on schedule.
Full Circle Wellness and Elmore Chiropractic, both of Kasson, broke ground on a new building earlier this spring, and there they will both operate and offer a holistic approach to wellness.
“I’m expanding to a free-standing birth center, so will have two birth suites in there as well,” said Anne Schwanke, owner of Full Circle Wellness. “It’s the one and only in southeast Minnesota so I’m pretty excited to bring this to our community. I think it’s needed and wanted and I think there’s going to be some true value in that for community-based care.”
A certified nurse midwife and a women’s health practitioner, Schwanke said she is eager to provide the level of care for women that she would have liked to receive when she had her kids. Her birth center will be the only one in the region that isn’t affiliated with a hospital.
“Our intention is to really make this a one-stop-shop for women and their families,” Schwanke said. “It’s a very unique model and there’s nothing like it anywhere in southeast Minnesota, outside of a hospital. This is very different. Holistic is the best word for it. We’re very excited.”
Schwanke and Katie Elmore, owner of Elmore Chiropractic, started talking years ago about collaborating together, and agreed it would be ground-breaking to partner together in offering women and their families a full roster of health care services.
Elmore said the two women have “similar patients,” and share a holistic outlook on health care.
“Her idea was to have a birth center, and we thought how cool it would be to be in the same facility and offer all of these services to women and their families under one roof,” Elmore said.
“We just kind of had these same conversations with each other over these past few years about how amazing it would be to bring all of these awesome services under one roof in our community,” Schwanke said. “We’re both very planted in the Kasson-Mantorville community, and we thought it would be so great to come together and we’re finally able to do that.”
Water births will be an option at the new birth center, with tubs in the two birthing suites.
In addition to the birth center, Schwanke will also maintain her current offerings of botox injections and Reiki. And Elmore will offer her chiropractic services as well as a massage therapist and an infra-red sauna. Other health modalities may be added in time, the women said.
“We have a very similar vision of what we’re wanting for women and their families,” Schwanke said, “and it’s going to be great. I couldn’t have found a better partner to collaborate with.”
The women are choosing Kasson as their location for their new shared facility because they’re both invested in the area, with Elmore living in Kasson and Schwanke in Mantorville.
