Hogfest Committee announces schedule for Claremont event

Claremont is gearing up for its annual Hogfest celebration with this year’s event scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 6.

There have been a couple of changes made to the event this year, organizers said, as the event has been scaled back to one day. The event is aimed at being family friendly and all events will be in one centralized location near Memorial Park and the Fire Hall.

The only event at another location will be the softball tournament at CHS field.

For the athletically-minded the day starts off with a 5K Fun Run/Walk at 8 a.m. Registration for the event starts at 7 a.m.

Three tournaments also get under way at 8 a.m. including coed volleyball, human foosball and coed softball.

A horseshoe tournament begins at noon.

For antique tractor enthusiasts there will be an antique tractor show on Front Street from 8 to 9:50 a.m. with the Parade taking center stage at 10 a.m.

Many of the days’ activities will be geared toward children with Kid’s Games scheduled from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be a pedal tractor pull at 12:30 p.m. and a Little Tykes Derby at 2:30 p.m.

Kids and all ages are invited to the Fire Hall at 11 a.m. for a program by the RADZOO from Owatonna.

There will also be a Scavenger Hunt from 5 to 6 p.m. with information at the kid’s game location.

From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. the entire community is invited to bring their super soakers and join in the community water fight by the water tower.

The Claremont Chamber of Commerce, Fire Department and First Responders have joined forces to put on a Pork Feed at the pavilion from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. while the American Legion Auxiliary will have an Ice Cream Social from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Legion Hall.

Again this year there will be a sweet corn eating contest. Time is 4:30 p.m. near the pavilion.

The Claremont Citizen of the Year award and the Community Service Award are traditions of Hogfest and this year the program will be at 5 p.m. at the pavilion.

Winners of the 2016 Hogfest Raffle will be drawn at 6 p.m. at the pavilion.

Only 600 raffle tickets will be available for a donation of $5 each.

First prize is $500 in cash. Second prize is $250 cash, third and fourth prizes $100 each and fifth prize $75. Prizes six through 10 will be $50 cash and 11 through 15 will be $25.

The fun continues into the evening with bingo from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Fire Hall sponsored by the Claremont American Legion and a Movie in the Park at 9 p.m.
