It’s a busy weekend with the Fall Festival, Halloween
It’s a busy weekend coming up with the Mantorville Fall Festival and a variety of Halloween activities scheduled.
Mantorville’s Fall Festival kicks off early Saturday morning with the Haunted Hustle 5k and 1-mile Fun Run. The 5k begins at 9 a.m. and the 1 mile run at 10 a.m. Registrations will be accepted Saturday, costumes are encouraged, and there will be prizes awarded.
Following the Haunted Hustle there will be a variety of activities all day including free Ghost Tour Hay Wagon Rides, a Pet Costume Contest, face painting, Rookie the Clown and his balloon animals, a Farmers Market, pumpkin painting for the kids, food trucks, historic home and log cabin tours and more.
The Chocolate Shoppe will have fresh caramel apples, the Old School Café will have Halloween Cookie Kits and there will be treats for the kids at County Seat Coffeehouse.
A Halloween party and costume contest for adults will be at the Mantorville Saloon in the evening.
In Kasson, Hy-Vee and the Dodge County Salvation Army have joined forces for the 1st annual community Winter Gear, Food and Hygiene Drive to help feed and keep Dodge County warm.
The drive is collecting freshly cleaned winter gear, including boots, coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, and scarves; non-perishable food, and hygiene items. The items can be dropped off in front of the Kasson Hy-Vee from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28. Volunteers will be available to help with donations.
The items will be distributed from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson.

The Kasson-Mantorville FFA will be having a Corn Maze from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, October 28 and 29.
Parking is available in the K-M High School north lot and you may then follow the signs and walk to the maze.
Children 12 and under must go through the maze with an adults.
Admission is a free will donation.
Over in West Concord, the 4th Annual Halloween Hootenanny is scheduled for Saturday.
Activities include breakfast at Wescon Lanes, 7-10:30 a.m. and lunch and bowling specials starting at 11 a.m. There will be specials at The Farm Store from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., activities at the library from 10 a.m. to noon, trick or treat with the farm animals from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Trunk or Treat, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and hay rides from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Also planned are a bounce house, craft and vendor fair, carnival games, hair color and face paining, a bean bag tournament, music by the Rockin’ HEP Cats, and a costume contest.
