Byron schools to start Aug. 28

Byron Public Schools are back in session as of Aug. 28, and plenty of newness awaits students.

When it comes to curriculum, the elementary school will be unveiling a new literacy program, said Byron superintendent Mike Neubeck.

The district will have an enrollment of 2,310 students, he said. About 12 new teachers will be coming on board within Byron Public Schools, and six new paraprofessionals will start.

Top of mind for everyone is the construction project, whereby Byron residents voted in a $44 million referendum to improve the school landscape.

“Classrooms should be done, and teachers should be able to move in when they come back,” Neubeck said. “Our stadium should be able to host football and soccer games on Aug. 24. And our community education center building will be ready for preschool after Labor Day.”

“We’re excited to get going and staff has been excited,” he said. “We have new spaces and we’re just excited to bring it all together and get started again.”
