K-M teacher airlifted after car-snowplow crash
A Kasson-Mantorville teacher was airlifted to Rochester Thursday morning after a crash involving a car and a snowplow on County Road 24, east of West Concord, just west of the County Road 7 intersection.
According to Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose, shortly after 7 a.m. on Thursday Dodge County 911 Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a car versus snowplow truck crash.
Deputies responded and found a semi-truck and trailer had gone into the ditch near the intersection and a county snowplow truck had stopped to assist with emergency lights. Deputies reported the roadway at the time was very icy.
Shortly after the plow driver stopped, an eastbound Buick sedan driven by 24-year-old Hannah Mickelson from Kenyon came up behind the plow and tried to avoid a collision by going around the truck into the ditch. Due to the icy road conditions, she ended up crashing her driver’s side into the right rear corner of the plow truck and spun into the ditch.
Dodge County along with West Concord Fire and Ambulance, Dodge County Ambulance Service, State Patrol, and Mayo One all responded to the crash. Mickelson was extricated from the vehicle and transported by Mayo One with what is reported as very serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Mickelson is a teacher at Kasson-Mantorville Schools and was enroute to work at the time of the crash. She was seat belted at the time of the crash which likely prevented further injuries.
There were no other injuries during this incident.
