GoFundMe account set up for K-M teacher injured in car crash
A GoFundMe account has been started for Hannah Mickelsen, 24, a Kasson-Mantorville teacher who was seriously injured in a crash involving a car and a snowplow on Thursday morning.
The crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on Thursday on County Road 24, east of West Concord, just west of the County Road 7 intersection, according to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.
According to police reports, a semi-truck and trailer had gone into the ditch near the intersection and a county snowplow stopped to assist with the emergency lights.
Deputies reported the roadway at the time was very icy.
Shortly after the plow driver stopped, an eastbound Buick sedan driven Mickelson came up behind the plow and tried to avoid a collision by going around the truck into the ditch. Due to the icy road conditions, she ended up crashing her driver’s side into the right rear corner of the plow truck and spun into the ditch.
Mikelsen was airlifted to Rochester by Mayo One.
According to fund organizer Kevin Fischer, Mickelsen suffered several injuries including a broken arm, a fracture in her back and fractures in her pelvis. She will be in the hospital for several weeks, needs multiple surgeries to repair the injuries and will be out of work for an extended period of time.
Mickelsen and her husband Luke are residents of Kenyon. She is a math teacher at Kasson-Mantorville Middle School.
