Triton falls vs. Bethlehem Academy

Early in the season, the Triton Cobras boys basketball team has been able to stay competitive, but when games get too close, you can only test fate so many times. The Cobras came up on the short end after a successful tournament a week ago by falling to Bethlehem Academy 56-53 in Fairbault last Tuesday night.

The Cobras got off to a quick start thanks to a 31-21 edge on the glass and another strong effort from their seniors. Isaiah Wannarka had 20 points and seven rebounds while Garrett Dahms pitched in ten points and five rebounds for Triton, who was able to rush to a 32-23 halftime lead.

Despite the strong effort from the seniors, the rest of the team fell flat on the scoresheet. Dahms and Wannarka were the only players to score in double digits for the Cobras and just six players recorded a point during the game.

“Others have to look to be a threat offensively,” Triton head coach Zak Hanegraaf explained. “They can’t rely on our seniors to do all the work.”

Without depth, the Cardinals turned up the pressure forcing a 11-2 advantage in turnovers. With the Cobras unable to generate much offense, Bethlehem Academy came back and took a late lead thanks to 16 points from freshman Jack Clark. The Cardinals also got 14 points from sophomore Avery Hunt and nine points from Brendan Trump to help lead them to victory.
