K-M/Triton head coach Laura Strandell looks on as Noelani Boettcher performs on the uneven bars.

K-M/Triton continues to show improvement

The Kasson-Mantorville gymnastics team is young this year, but its youth hasn’t prevented them from making it a learning experience. Several gymnasts improved over their first meet against Caledonia/Spring Grove and while the KoMets couldn’t defeat Byron on Tuesday, there was plenty to be excited about.

“Byron is a deep, experienced and talented team,” K-M/Triton head coach Laura Strandell explained. “We did our best though and our girls improved their score by about five points. I was thrilled with that improvement.”

Leading the way for the KoMets was Cambryn Rubin, who built off her strong performance from her first meet. The sophomore placed second on the uneven bars with an 8.4 score and fourth on the balance beam (7.925) and floor routines. Those combined performances lead her to a 33.375 all-around score which was good for third in the competition.

For Byron, Emma Weatherly was great with a first place finish on the vault (9.0 score), balance beam (8.8), floor (9.2) and all-around (35.275). This performance lead the Bears to win the team competition by a score of 134.6 to 116.975.

Despite the loss, Strandell continues to preach that she wants to see improvement rather than an end result.
