KoMets keep their winning streak; defeat Byron

It was a Monday night game between two local rivals, the Kasson-Mantorville KoMets versus the Byron Bears.

The game started with Byron earning their first point but KoMets got theirs seconds after. The match was a very heated one with very repetitive sets.

During the first set, the KoMets amazingly doubled the score multiple times, starting out 10-5, 14-7, 16-8, 18-9, then 20-10, which pretty much sums up how the first set played out. During those doubles, two time outs were called. After the first one, the KoMets kept their intensity going and following the second one, the Bears received an encouraging point. However, this didn’t do much as the KoMets broke out of the doubles and won the first set 25-10.

In the second set, the Bears were in a routine with getting the first point and then became quite repetitious as they held the scoring in a consistently tied manner at 4-4, then 5-5 and 6-6. Both the KoMets and Bears can be known for their consistency and repetition.

The KoMets increased the score times two once again, 12-6, until Byron increased their intensity and started catching up, which increased the score 13-11. With this definitely being a closer set, some KM fans got a little worried, along with many Byron fans hoping to flip to the other side of the score.

Byron inched their way up 16-17, just needing one more point to tie, which they succeeded in doing as the KoMets hit the ball into the net. The recurrent of the tying began again, 17-17, 18-18, 19-19, up until the KoMets got to a comfortable lead at 21-19.  However, that comfort quickly turned to fear as the Bears got within one point. The KoMets sighed relief when they narrowly won the second set 25-20.

Third set began with the KoMets confident as they broke the Bears clockwork cycle, and KM got the first point.  In response, the Bears briskly gained their first point, starting the set 1-1 tie. The Bears quickly gained a reasonable lead for almost the entire third set. The KoMets eventually were able to shorten the wide lead, 9-7, and for the remainder of the set, both Byron and KoMet fans held their breath as the game was neck and neck.

The teams found themselves in another tie, 16-16, both in hopes of catching the lead. It was the Komets that were able to jump the score, but it only lasted for seconds as Byron fought back, and brought the score back to a tie, 18-18.

The KoMets anticipated a win when they jumped the score again and reached 20-18, and held strong to their first and second set consistency, winning again with a final score 25-19.

The KoMets beat one of their stronger rivals 3-0, allowing them to hold onto their winning streak.
