KM KoMets girls volleyball are unstoppable

Goodhue

A Monday night game at Kasson against Goodhue left KoMet fans thrilled. This game was Senior Night and the KoMets recognized all of their seniors: Anna Braun, Maddy Cummings, Avery Irish, Olivia Matuska, Shae Sands, Mya Suess and Noelle Vanoort.

The game started with a serving error into the net, however this would later become not so big of a deal. Still in the very beginning of the first set, there was a long entrancing battle between the two teams until it went into the net by the Wildcats giving the KoMets a point, 3-2.

There was an abundant amount of scrambling around that gave the audience an entertaining night. Noelle Vanoort gave quite a show as well; she had beautiful sets, she got one over on the tip and she got her eighth kill of the night only in the first set.

Some of her teammates were close behind, including Addy Bzoskie who got a kill soon after Vanoort got her tip.

There was another serving error made by the KoMets, but no fear as they were still up 12-10. It was like a glance and suddenly the score was now 20-15, KoMets still up. They were keeping a pretty good lead and it kept them in the clear as they won the first set 25-18.

At the start of the second set, KoMet Maddy Cummings gets the ball down and KM gains a point, 3-1. Mya Suess was also one to get a kill, and when that was successful, the score turned 6-2. Goodhue had a moment where they tipped the ball up and out of bounds, giving KM another point, 11-8.

However, soon after, a wildcat had a one-handed save with her teammates helping to get it over the net, scoring them a point in hopes of getting closer in score to the KoMets. Goodhue was doing well, but Maddie Converse didn’t let that last long and served an ace.

Subsequently, Avery Irish got two consecutive aces updating the score of the second set to be 18-11. The KM seniors were playing a great game of volleyball. Mya Suess was capable of getting her fourth kill of the night that would bring the score to 23-13 and at the tail end of the set, Vanoort gets down the kill that wins them set two 25-14. Goodhue only laid down two kills in the second set.

Set three started out a bit slower, but KoMets picked up their earlier stride, going back and forth until a Goodhue middle blocker set down a kill to tie the game at 6-6. The score later ties once more at 10-10. It was getting very close, too close for the KoMets, but they slid back into the safe zone with a five-point lead. Although Goodhue played really well, they just didn’t do enough as the KoMets took the lead each set.

Cate Wanous dropped her second ace of the night bringing the score to 20-11 and then Suess gets another kill down which changes the scoreboard to read 23-12. Annika Larson gets a tip and her first kill of the night to end set three with the KoMets winning 25-14.

The KoMets ended this game with eight total Aces and Goodhue ended it with only one. KoMets take a full victory.

Cannon Falls

Cannon Falls was not ready for what was to come either on Thursday night when they played KM on their home turf. The Bombers got the first serve but they weren’t able to keep it going and the KoMets got the first point. The KoMets were able to get a pretty good lead but the Bombers managed to keep the scores close the entire game.

The Bombers had many superior blocks in the first set that brought them up to tie 4-4 in the beginning of the first set. By no time the KoMets scored 10, with the Bombers trickling behind at 7. When the Bombers arrived at 10, the KoMets already excelled with a 5-point lead. The first timeout was called by the Bombers when they started falling behind by 9. After this quick break the Bombers made a point but that still wasn’t going to help them as the KoMets now had gained a 10-point lead. No serves went into the net this entire first set except for the one that successfully made the KoMets win the first set 25-16.

The KoMets got the first serve of the second set and once again were the first to score. There were a couple moments of scoreboard confusion when the KoMets had a 10 while the Bombers were at 3, but the call got changed and KoMets lost their 10th point. However, the KoMets received it back soon after when there was another call that changed and the Bombers had to return their point, the score now 10-5. After many one-handed dives and great saves, the KoMets rapidly found a 10-point lead once again setting a 17-7 score.

The second set didn’t take long and the KoMets took their second win of the match 25-12 after a Bomber bounced the ball out of bounds on their own side.

In the third set, the Bombers got the first serve and once more, the KoMets, following a rule of consistency, received the first point. The Bombers kept the score really close during this last set, only allowing the KoMets a 2-point lead. This put more pressure on KM when the score bumped itself to 18-16. They were still up but the Bombers weren’t going to go without a fight.

Hearts were pounding when the Bombers were only one point behind at 20-19. Another timeout was called with the score sitting at 24-19. There was a sigh of relief as the players came back on the court and the KoMets bumped up the score to 25-19, winning the match 3-0.

They won both matches this week looking extraordinarily strong against the competition. The KoMets appear to be on an unstoppable momentum!
