What’s your COVID-19 Hero story?

We’ve all been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic in some way or another over the past three months.

As crazy as things have been during the crisis and under all the problems and issues that have resulted from the outbreak, there are countless stories of people that have made a difference and done some good deeds for others. We want to know about those stories.

There are many heroes in our midst, some who have done some obviously miraculous things, but many others who could be considered unassuming and done things that perhaps we normally wouldn’t consider such a big deal.

We are looking for your personal story of how a hero in our communities has touched your life during COVID-19. We want to know about the courageous workers risking their own lives to save ours. But we also want to know about other heroes who have done some more normal things. Maybe it’s a next-door neighbor who has gone to extra lengths to make sure you are safe, a church member who has delivered groceries to you or stranger that provided a ride for you to a necessary appointment of some sorts.

The problem is only you can help identify those heroes. You are the crucial link to helping us uncover and showcase the heroes who have helped make a positive difference in your life.

If there is one thing that has happened throughout this pandemic, it’s how people have turned to help their friends, neighbors and even strangers. We have seen some pretty amazing things happen in a short period of time.

We are asking you to jot down some thoughts in 200 words or less highlighting details about your hero and how they helped you survive COVID-19. You can either email them to us with your contact information at bptimes@frontiernet.net or mail to P.O. Box 247, Blooming Prairie, MN 55917. Please send them to us by Friday, July 10.

In honor of our COVID-19 heroes, we plan to publish a special section later this summer or early fall. We want to include your submissions in this edition. We are even awarding prizes for the best submissions as determined by a group of judges.

The coronavirus has certainly been an unprecedented time in our history. We want to make sure to capture this history so that people 100 years from now can look back and see how united we were in battling the virus and helping each other out.

It’s time for all of us to unmask the heroes behind the COVID-19 crisis.

I can’t tell you how many times people come into our newspaper office to search for important items that have happened over the past 125 years. The coronavirus will be one of those items that future generations will be checking into down the road.

It would be nice to give those people a collection of our best so they know how we overcame a major life-changing event.

As we maneuver through this pandemic, it’s time to salute our COVID-19 heroes. All it takes is you going in hot pursuit of helping us identify those heroes.
