Trying new things

Almost two years ago I moved from Rhode Island to Minnesota, I didn’t know a soul, and I didn’t know about many of the different food chains and stores that are out here compared to out east.

When I first to St. James in the summer of 2017, I was eager to try different things, and learn about things that I knew nothing about.

What I found myself doing though, when it came to food is that I would not go out of my comfort zone much.

Whether it was grocery shopping, or getting some to eat at a restaurant, I found myself going to the few chains that I would have gone to in Rhode Island or in other New England states, compared to trying different places.

About a year after moving to Minnesota, I meet my girlfriend, a born and raised Minnesotan, and she started to introduce me to different foods and restaurants that I never even heard of before.

The more I started trying these different things, the more I realized I liked them, and felt comfortable trying more and more new foods and places to eat.

For example, one thing I never heard of before I moved to Minnesota is tater tot hotdish. Since I have had it on multiple occasions I realized that I have been missing out all these years.

In October, when I moved to Dodge County, I made a commitment to start trying different local places in the area, at least once.

Although, I was a little hesitant at first, we have done that going to different restaurants in Dodge County, Byron and in Rochester.

I am glad we have done so.

So far we have experienced some of the best foods, drinks, and hospitality at these different establishments and we are really excited to continue to try new places, and for me new foods possibly.

My hope is that I will get lots of messages and or people stopping me when I’m out and about to let me know some places I should try in the area and also give me some recommendations of what I should try.
