Richards, Torkelson, Madery, Soberg good board choices

To the Editor:

The Kasson-Mantorville School Board election has drawn quite a bit of interest-which is a good because it is a positive thing to see people showing interest in an area of our community that is very important to our community’s growth.

I have lived in the Kasson-Mantorville area for 60 years. My family had kids and grandkids in the K-M School District for 50+ years. I was involved in a family business, the Dodge County Independent Newspaper, for 45 years. I’ve attended more K-M school events, from sports to concerts and school board meetings to homecomings and graduations, than most in our community.

I feel that it is very important to elect competent and qualified individuals to the school board who have children as their best interest. I believe incumbents Angie Richards and Mark Torkelson are deserving of being re-elected to the school board. They have been strong members of the board and are looking out for the best interests of the students, staff, and community.

It is also my opinion that Patrick Madery would be a very good choice for the board. He and his siblings grew up as our next-door neighbors and I believe that he would be a positive addition to the board.

I do not have much knowledge about candidate Dylan Soberg but in conversations I have had with K-M area residents I have come to believe this young man would be a good, refreshing addition to the board. Again, I do not know Dylan personally but people I do know, and respect, have spoken highly of him.

I have nothing whatsoever against any of the other candidates. A few of them I do know quite well though the years of covering K-M School District activities. My only concern is conflict of interest-board candidates running for office when a spouse has a special interest in the district. And again, there is no finger pointing. Just thinking there may be a conflict of interest.

I believe whoever is elected to the K-M School Board will do a great job. My opinion is not intended to influence anyone. This is only the opinion of one individual who has followed K-M activities and board meetings more than anyone-period!

Thank you for the opportunity to speak to the people.
