Life full of decisions

Ever since I announced that I would be leaving the paper to move back east, I have reflected on my time in Minnesota.

For about a month I thought about this and then I heard someone explain it perfectly.

I was talking to the assistant Dodge County attorney about Rhode Island and how we have both been to different parts of the country for work and our education.

He said something to the effect of “we all make decisions.”

I thought about it for a while and realized that it was exactly the way to summarize my time in Minnesota, and really how it ended up here.

About 27 months ago I made a life changing decision when I decided to move halfway across the country to Minnesota.

Over the course of my time here I have had to make a series of different decisions both small ones and bigger ones, like adopting my dog, or leaving St. James to live and work in Dodge County.

A few months ago, I was tasked with making another life changing decision when I was approached about the idea of packing up my life in Minnesota, to pursue a career change in political campaigning.

After thinking about it for a while and talking it over with family and friends, and my girlfriend I realized that taking the opportunity would be a great one for me.

Since I’ve been 18 years old I have always wanted to be involved with political campaigning and the thought of working full-time doing it at a young age is a dream come true.

For myself I am proud of the different major decisions that I have made in my young career and I don’t regret any of them for a minute.

Making the decision to move across the country as a 21 year old has allowed me to grow so much as a storyteller, a person, and newspaper editor.

The decision to move has lead to different things in my life that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. I was able to meet the love of my life, was able to adopt my dog and best friend Finn, and have had the chance to meet some of the most important people in my life.

My sincere hope is that people who have heard or read my story realize that anything is truly possible if your willing to take risks and make very difficult decisions. I believe my story, the one of a city boy from R.I. not just living but becoming apart of small town communities is one that shows that anything is truly possible.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of the readers, advertisers, contributors, and  community members, who have helped me in a number of different ways, but more importantly for helping to keep community journalism alive.
