Farm belt food comes courtesy of Chinese company

Sitting right in the middle of corn, hog, and cattle growing country, it’s hard for me to believe that the food we eat for breakfast is brought to our tables by a Chinese company. That’s right, Communist China, the People’s Republic of China, Red China, home of COVID-19 and the World Health Organization.

I’ve been checking into several things about China that I wasn’t aware of until this virus was shared by China with the rest of the world.

For example, I was not aware that China owns the largest pork producing company in the United States. That’s right, Smithfield Foods, Inc., is a meat-processing company based in Smithfield Foods, Inc., is a meat-processing company based in Smithfield, Virginia, in the United States, and a wholly owned subsidiary of WH Group of China, then known as Shuanghui Group, WH Group purchased Smithfield Foods in 2013 for $4.72 billion, more than its market value.

Founded in 1936 as the Smithfield Packing Company by Joseph W. Luter and his son, the company is the largest pork producer in the world.

So that “Baconator,” or the bacon and eggs we have at breakfast likely comes from Smithfield.

Of course that’s not all the Chinese have going for them in the U.S., as part of the Smithfield group, they own Eckrich, Nathan’s Famous, Farmland, Armour, Farmer John, Dretschmar, John Morrell, Cook’s, Gwaltney, Carado, Margherita, Curly’s , Healthy Ones, Morliny, Krakus, and Berlinki.

No, before you HO-HO this, consider that the Green Giant vegetables are sourced from many countries including China. 

They also produce 90 percent of our vitamin C, 78 percent of tilapia, 70 percent of our apple juice, 50 percent of the cod we eat, 43 percent of processed mushrooms and 23 percent of garlic.

Okay, for those of you who are fans of America’s largest retailer, Walmart, here are some numbers…a mere 70-80 percent of all of Walmart’s merchandise comes from China. (Remember when Walmart once advertised that their products were proudly made in America?)

What’s the point in all of this? Well, we have found out through this national media hysteria that a majority of our pharmaceuticals is produced in China.

U.S. bacon is produced for U.S. consumption by a Chinese company in North Carolina – Smithfield Foods, Inc.
