Celebrate Christmas with the DCI

Communities all over Dodge County are gearing up to celebrate Christmas — the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Kasson and Mantorville are marking the kick off with Christmas in Kasson and Christmas in Mantorville on Saturday, Dec. 4.

In Kasson Santa’s Parade gets underway at 8:30 a.m. at the KM Community Education building and ending at the Kasson Fire Station at 9:30 a.m. where pictures with Santa until 10 a.m.

As part of that tradition, the Dodge County Independent is having an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We’ll be serving some Scandinavian traditional items like Krumkake, Spritz cookies, Rosettes, Lefsa, Christmas cookies, coffee from Smiling Moose (Trail Creek Coffee Roasters), hot chocolate and drawings for gift cards from area businesses. Bring the whole family — kids, grandma and grandpa, cousins and friends.

In addition to the food items, we’ll have a drawing for a Gnome at 1 p.m.

In addition, the following businesses will participate in the annual event:

Midwest Flooring Solutions (121 West Main Street), Dodge County Salvation Army Canteen truck, Prairie Meadows Senior Living, Simply Tidy, Ferbrook Family Center, Moosbrugger Law office, Kasson American Legion, Trail Creek Coffee Roasters, State Theatre, Smiling Moose Colonial Clock Shop, Anytime Fitness, Kasson Laser Graphics, Kasson Variety Store, McKern Financial Group,

Hy-Vee, Kasson Liquor Store, Main Alternative, Kristofor Johnson Realty, Kasson Fire Department and Ziebell Law.

A scavenger hunt will be held at Kasson Laser Graphics.

Let’s break out of all the lockdown stuff, get out and stop by each of these locations. Enjoy Christmas 2021!

Meanwhile, over the river and through the woods, Mantorville is opening its doors the same day, Dec. 4, for the first ever Christmas Cookie Tin Sale. Here’s how it works: purchase a cookie tin for $10 — then stop at each participating merchant for Olde Fashioned Christmas to gather your cookies — Finds on 5th, Mantorville Antique Mall, Chocolate Shoppe, Hubbell House, Restoration House, Casey’s, and County Seat Coffee House.

There will be a pickle ornament hunt with prizes for first, second and third place.

In addition, there will be free wagon rides at the Opera House, a visit with Santa and other activities throughout the day.

Many activities begin at 8 a.m. and run through 5 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m. “A Shelf Full of Elves” — a Christmas comedy will begin performing.

For more information check the Mantorville Chamber of Commerce advertisement in this issue of the DCI and the Advantage.
