Believing the Unbelievable in 2020

Many strange things have occurred in 2020. Nothing compares to what recently popped up in Wisconsin. A snowmobile was being transported on Highway 63 in northwest Wisconsin when the vehicle carrying to sled was pulled over.

Now transporting a snowmobile in that neck of the woods is not uncommon. What was uncommon was the vehicle transporting the snowmobile. The vehicle was an older model Toyota Corolla. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has a photo that was posted on Twitter showing the stopped Toyota with a Polaris snowmobile strapped sideways to the roof of the compact vehicle.

The 23-year-old driver got off with a warning about hauling the sled in an “unsafe manner.” However, he was cited for failing to buckle up. (I’m not certain if the trooper was referring to the driver of the snowmobile.)

Driver Matthew Schmit of Clayton, told the trooper that he had just bought the snowmobile and was driving it over to a friends house.

Referring the manner in which he was hauling the sled, he told the trooper “I know it looks sketch, but we had it strapped down and shook it…up, like in this kind of region, stuff like this gets seen all the time, but more like the back roads.”

Well, having lived in northwest Wisconsin, I can assure everyone that there were some strange things going on in the back country, but this manner of hauling a snowmobile has to be one of the most incredible methods.

(It should be noted that Schmit did have an area rug under the snowmobile in an effort to limit the number of scratches to his Corolla.)

Schmit could have been cited for the Minnesota plates he had on the Toyota. He told the trooper that he bought the car in the Twin Cities last spring but had not gotten around to transferring the title. (Too busy hauling snowmobiles.)
