Stanley Leroy Tompkins, 89, Kasson

On May 16, 2021, our grandfather, father, friend and so much more left to be Our Lord.

Stanley Leroy Tompkins was one of the most stubborn, hard working man most have ever met. Born on January 19, 1932 in Byron, he stayed close to his roots and raised two sons and a daughter in Kasson with his loving wife, Darlene.

Stan joined the Air Force in 1950 and served four years during the Korean War. When he returned home, he owned and operated his own service station.

He then married Darlene in 1959. In 1961, Darelen gave birth to their first children, Jeff and Jodi. When the children were three years old, the family moved up to Babbit, Minn. Where Stan worked in the mines driving machinery. Shortly before their youngest son Steve was born, they moved back to Kasson.

Through the 70s and into the 80s, Stan worked for Total Asphalt in the Cities driving truck. After he left Total Asphalt, he owned his own semi, driving for various companies including FabCon and McNeilus, until his retirement in 1999.

He is survived by wife, Darlene, children, Jeff (Deanna) Tompkins, Jodi Tompkins and Steve Tompkins and grandchildren Becky, Ryan, and Kaylyn Tompkins.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Tompkins, and parents Leroy and Mary.

There will be a celebration of life at the Kasson Legion, 212 W. Main St., on Thursday, May 27, from 3-6 p.m.
