Philip E. DuBois, age 98 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on  Friday March 19, 2021 at Fairway Pines Assisted Living in Sauk Centre.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 24 at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. Interment was at St. Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre with military honors by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.

Philip Edward DuBois was born Sept. 2, 1922 in Red Wing  to Raymond and Hulda (Hisley) DuBois. Throughout his youth, Phil was an active member of the Aurora Ski Club and participated in any and all sports.

He served in the U.S. Marines during WWII , based in the south Pacific for four years. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 17, 1945.

He was united in marriage to the love of his life Beatrice Nash on Jan. 5, 1949 in Red Wing.

Phil started his coaching and teaching journey in Eagle Bend, Minn. in 1951 with his wife Beatrice at his side. He stayed in Eagle Bend teaching and establishing winning records in basketball and football until 1955 when he moved to Sauk Centre, to further his career.

There he taught history and social studies and coached basketball, football, golf and baseball. He taught in the classroom from 1955-1984.

But it was his genuine love for working with the kids and his fellow coaches that led him to continue to coach and substitute teach until his 85th year of life. Because of his genuine kindness and caring, he touched the lives of many and for this he will be fondly remembered.

Phil was an active member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, the VFW and the American Legion all in Sauk Centre. Phil enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and working on the house, but his greatest passion was his love for his family, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his children, Steve (Sandra) DuBois of Kasson, Janna (Scott) Larson of Highmore, S.D., Kelly (Vance) DuBois-Gerchak of Moorhead, and Jason (Julie) DuBois of Fargo, N.D.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
