Michael Edward Nelson, 68, Hayfield

Michael Edward Nelson, age 68 of Hayfield died on Sunday, February 5, 2023. He passed peacefully with his family at his side.

He was born on February 6, 1954, in Austin, to Wallace and Darlene (Ludwig) Nelson. He grew up in Brownsdale and graduated from Hayfield High School in 1972.

He was a lifelong member of the Hayfield community. He served on the Hayfield Ambulance for 20 years and was an active member of the Dodge County Posse. He was an avid bowler and scored a 298. He worked as an agricultural mechanic at Lyle Demmer Farms then Himmer Farm repair for 34 years until his retirement in 2020. It didn’t take long for Mike to become bored and miss people, so he took a leisure job at Groom Transportation.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed his chocolate, NASCAR, Minnesota Vikings, and traveling. He enjoyed random day trips to see what he hadn’t seen and going on supply runs to Missouri and Canada. He especially enjoyed watching his favorite #12 pitcher and going on family trips to  Colorado to make scalloped corn with his sister. He was a certified grill master at Blackies BBQ with his famous barbeque ribs and loved the annual family grilling competition, which he only won once.

He is survived by his wife, Teri Nelson, children Lee (Amy) Nelson, Kyle (Missy) Nelson, Lindsey (Todd) Floren, Adam (Haley) Fjerstad, Kaci (Kim) Youngjin; grandchildren Amanda Nelson, Cody (Lauren) Nelson, Jacob Nelson, Chan, Dana, and Dodam Youngjin; great-grandchildren Lyla, Micah Nelson, and Anders Nelson and honorary grandchildren Kaydence Fjerstad and Krue Ebnet. Also surviving are siblings Gloria (Merlin) Christenson, Daniel Nelson, David (Sheryl) Nelson, and Deanna Nelson, along with many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Visitation will be 4 — 7 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 2nd Street NW in Hayfield and one hour before the service on Friday. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2023, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Dodge

Center.
