Marieta F. Frederick, 88, Zumbrota

Marieta F. Frederick, 88 of Zumbrota, formerly of Pine Island, died on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Zumbrota Health Services. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Berne with the Rev. Victor Jortack officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home – Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Marieta Frances Churchward was born on July 22, 1926, in Dodge Center to Niles and Mildred (nee Sperling) Churchward. She grew up in Dodge Center and graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1944. On Jan. 6, 1945, she married Charles Frederick in Dodge Center. They lived in Seattle, Washington, while Charles served in the U.S. Navy. 

After his discharge they moved to California for a short time before returning to Dodge Center. They settled in West Concord where they raised their family. Charles was a truck driver and Marieta was a homemaker. 

On Feb. 17, 1961, Charles died. Marieta continued to live in West Concord. On Dec. 14, 1963, she married Robert Scheisser. Robert died on Jan. 1, 1983. Marieta moved into Pine Island after she retired. Marieta was an active member of Zwingli United Church of Christ and enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, dancing, fishing and traveling with her special friend Verne West.

Marieta is survived by three sons, Kerry (Sue) Frederick of Tucson, Arizona, Wynn (Virginia) Frederick of Chisholm and Bryce (Brenda) Frederick of Zumbrota; six grandchildren, Katie (Cody Harris) Frederick of Ottawa, Canada, Stacey (Jeremy) Rodorigo of Hibbing, Stephanie (Jeff) Hopke of Hibbing, Justin (Heather) Frederick of West Concord, Niles (Angela) Frederick of Pine Island and Sabrina (Zane Van Schaick) Hinrichs of South Troy; eight great-grandchildren, Sage and Madyson Hopke, Brecken Rodorigo, Natalie and Madelyn Frederick, Nora and Brynn Frederick and Wyatt Frederick.

Marieta was preceded in death by her husbands Charles and Robert and special friend Verne West.
