Joan M. Sweeney, 76, Owatonna
Joan Sweeney of Owatonna died June 5, 2022 at her home in Owatonna. Mass of Christian Burial is set for Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna. Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday starting at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Joan was born on Nov. 30, 1945, the daughter of Clarence M. and Loretta C. (Miller) McLaughlin in Rochester. She attended Rochester Lourdes High School and graduated in 1963. Joan worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester after high school.
She was united in marriage to Michael Sweeney on Aug. 14, 1965, at St. Clements Catholic Church in Hammond, Minn. Mike took a job with MnDOT and the couple moved to Owatonna. Joan began her career at Jostens where she worked for 45 years before retiring in 2011.
Joan was a member of VFW Auxiliary and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna, where she volunteered to sing with the choir. She was also a member of the Golden Tones.
Joan is survived by her siblings Carl (Linda) McLaughlin of Rochester and Margaret “Margie” Ball of Plainview; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mike, and sister Rosemary Books.
