Chester (Jerry) Louks, 88, Owatonna

Chester (Jerry) Louks, departed this earth Jan. 25, 2021.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday Jan. 29, 2021 at the Brick Meger Funeral Home, followed by interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the funeral service starting at 10 a.m.

Jerry was born May 15, 1932 in Granada, Minn., the 9th child of Virgil and Florence Louks.

Jerry grew up in a large family with eight brothers and 11 sisters. That large family never left his heart.

His doors were always open and his house seemed to be always full with friends and family.

Jerry enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951 and was first assigned to Korea to support the air missions during the war. After returning to the states he was stationed at Grand View Air Force Base in Kansas City. While stationed in KC Jerry returned to Minnesota to marry the love of his life, Arlene Madery. They became husband and wife April 11, 1953 and moved to Kansas City to start their life together.

After the Air Force, Jerry and Arlene moved back to Minnesota where they worked a few farms in the area, before moving to Owatonna, where Jerry worked for Marigold Dairy. He then went into sales for AR Wood, where he worked several years before starting C&L Construction in 1970

Jerry was a hard worker and seemed to know how to do just about everything that involved working with his hands and tools.

Working hard during the week but always remembering that weekends were for fun.

Going to the lake, boating, fishing and Canasta games late into the night were always on tap.

In 1978, Jerry and Arlene were able to purchase a cabin on Lake Miltona and that became the ultimate gathering spot for family, friends and good times for many years.

Jerry also loved the farm life so with the help of his children they kept a hobby farm, raising cattle, horses, hogs, ducks, geese, chickens, cats and dogs etc.

One thing that brought Jerry a special joy, was being a “Grampa”/“Great Grampa”. He was sure good at it!  Anytime he could spend with his grandchildren was truly cherished time.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Arlene; sons, James (Karen) Louks, Bruce (Mary) Louks, Mick (Jean) Louks and daughter Teresa Louks, all of Owatonna; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Roger and Terry and his four sisters, Verta, Vivian, Pat and Linda.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Florence; six brothers William, Wayne, Kenneth, Bob, Richard and Jimmy and seven sisters, Judy, Grace, Betty, Darlene, Bonnie, Audrey and Mary; one granddaughter, the hole in his heart, Michelle Anne Bulver.
