Carl M. Beckstrom, 79, Kasson

Carl M. Beckstrom was born to Carl G. and Burnett (Grove) Beckstrom on September 5, 1942. He grew up in rural Wanamingo and graduated from high school in 1960.

After graduation, he worked at the American Tool Company in Minneapolis from 1960- 1964. In 1962, he joined the Army Reserves and was active until 1968. In 1965 he started employment at IBM in Rochester. He was a machinist until he retired in 1995. He was also a school bus driver for the Kasson-Mantorville school district from 1994-2014.

He was active as a 4-H leader from 1980-2005 and a member of the Kasson American Legion.

Carl had many interests and hobbies. He had a wood shop in his basement, loved history, and trains. He helped many neighbors with lawn care, snow removal and general “fix-it” issues. He loved to travel. His next new friend was just down the road.

In 1965, a roller skating trip to Rush City, put him in contact with Madelyn Peterson of Frederic, Wis. They were married on July 16th, 1966. They were married for 55 years.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl G. and Burnett (Grove) Beckstrom and a granddaughter, Melissa Rose Kruger.

Carl is survived by his wife Madelyn (Peterson) Beckstrom; children Alissa (Ed) Kruger and Alan (Kim) Beckstrom; grandchildren Tony Kruger, Katie (Joe) Glende, Ian Bryant, Aidan Beckstrom, Addi Beckstrom, and Logan Bryant and great-grandchildren Jacoby Kruger and Michael and Delilah Glende. He is also survived by his aunt Ruth Lorentz of Otsego, Minn. and many cousins from various areas.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave NW, Kasson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to his family or to the Parkinson’s Foundation (https://www.parkinson.org) in Carl’s name.
