Betty L. Reecy, 78, Tallahassee, Florida

Betty Louise Hunter Reecy, 78, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, following a spirited battle with cancer.

Betty was born August 25, 1942, in Merced, California to Al and Lyda (nee: Cox) Hunter. She grew up in rural Oregon and Washington until she graduated from Silverton High School, Silverton, Oregon in 1960.

Following graduation, she moved to Reno, Nev. to work as a telephone operator. Betty married Richard L. Reecy on Dec. 30, 1961, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster, Minn. Together they had four children: Ken, Steve, Mary and Cindy.

The family relocated to Florida from Minnesota in 1975, before settling in Tallahassee, Fla., in 1977.

Betty was a talented artist, loved to travel, and had an adventurous spirit.  Betty had a distinguished career in Florida State government in Tallahassee until her retirement in 2006.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents, as well as her brothers, Jack and Alvin Hunter. She is survived by her children, Ken Reecy (and wife Joni), Steve Reecy (and wife Karen), Mary Suhr (and husband Jeff) and Cindy Wilson (and husband Scott); 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and very good friends. Her grandchildren include: Stanton Reecy; Kaylee Reecy; Kimberly Reecy; Kristen Reecy; Erin Suhr; Nathan Suhr; Emily Suhr; Bradley Suhr; Hannah Wilson and Leslie Wilson, and her great-grandchildren Lily and Lindsey.

Interment was at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park, in Tallahassee.
