Betty Jean (Weitzel) Janes, age 82, passed on November 28, 2022, at her home in Hayfield after spending a beautiful Thanksgiving with her family.
Betty was born January 6, 1940 to Jacob and Anna (Applehaus) Weitzel in Wells, MN. She was raised in Hollandale with her ten siblings and attended Albert Lea High School. On July 27, 1959, she was united in married to Darrel Janes of Hayfield, MN. Betty and Darrel shared 53 beautiful years of marriage with their three  children and many extended family members in and around Hayfield.
Betty was a member of the Oaks Country Club and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she often volunteered with the women’s group, helped decorate for events in the fellowship hall, and served as a youth leader with her husband for many years. She was incredibly artistic and a talented painter and seamstress. After retiring from farming in 1996, Darrel and Betty spent much of their time traveling across the country in their RV together and with their grandchildren going to Buffum Family Reunions and making memories. They spent their winters in Gold Canyon, AZ and San Diego, CA where Betty made many lasting
friendships. When home from their travels, Betty loved sitting by their pool, golfing with Darrel and the grandkids, and playing cards, especially rummy and canasta. In more recent years, Betty enjoyed her daily hot chocolate with the coffee ladies at Uncle Money’s and watching Dancing with the Stars and the Bachelor with her granddaughters. She loved having a full house and spent her last days surrounded by family for the holiday. Her sense of humor, her love for her family, and her strong faith were infectious, and she will be missed by all.
Betty is survived in death by her son Randy Janes, Hayfield, MN; daughter Jodi (Randy) Benson, Sargeant, MN; daughter Terri (Brian) Timm, Byron, MN; grandchildren Ryan Danks (Brittany Bauer), Brittany Benson (Kellen Bachman), Lauren and Aaron Timm, Tristin and Tessa Janes (Cody Wuerflein); great grandchildren Carson and Brady Danks; brother Jerry (Joanie) Weitzel; sisters Joyce (Jerry) Fletcher and Connie (Daniel) Gess; many nieces and nephews; and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Darrel; brothers Ed, Bob, and Jimmy Weitzel; sisters Kathrine Lorenzen, Ruth Lawson, Beverly
Koenigsfeld, and Rosie Warner. Blessed be her memory.
