The K-M Regional Veterinary Hospital hosted an open house Saturday to give new owners, Dr. Lauren Dinsmore and her husband Jason, an opportunity to meet the public and show the facility. Tours were offered, Kasson’s K-9 cop “liberty” was on hand, pet adoptions were available and there were free hot dogs, brats and refreshments. One of the new additions behind the facility is a chicken coop built over the winter by Jason to house laying hens. The chickens were very popular with the children at the open house. Also, Carrie Iverson, an assistant trainer at K-M Regional, runs through the dog agility course with her Australian Shepherd Willow.

Forty nine members of the Brandli family gathered at Child Lake north of Hackensack to celebrate Christmas over the 4th of July weekend. Because Lura Brandli, the family matriarch, was recovering from a serious auto accident at Christmas she requested a July 4 observance of the holiday. For the past few months “Grandma B” shopped and wrapped gifts for her seven children and their families. On the eve of “Christmas” a local pine was cut and decorated with fishing lures and bobbers, strung popcorn, snowflakes, yarn pompoms and various cartoon characters. Christmas carols were sung and season’s greetings exchanged. The next day two twenty pound turkeys, with the traditional dressing, formed the basis of “Christmas” dinner. St. Nicholas appeared and helped distribute Grandma B’s gifts to the family members present.
