Wildcats hockey boys beat Faribault, lose to Mayo; girls beat Simley

Dodge County Wildcats boys hockey team had no problem last Tuesday, Feb. 16, when they traveled to Faribault and defeated the Falcons by a 7-0 score.

Gavin Giesler scored once in the first period with assists from Isaac Rogne and Charlie Blaisdell.

Easton Hammill scored in the second on a power play, assisted by Brody Lamb and Charlie Blaisdell. Brody Lamb also scored in the second period assisted by Matt Donovan and Isaac Rogne.

The Wildcats scored four times in the third period with goals by Matt Donovan, Gryffon Funke, Brody Lamb and Brendon Wolesky. Assists were by Brody Lamb, Easton Hammill, Miles Smith, Charlie Blaisdell and Matt Donovan.

Dodge County had one minor penalty in the first period; Faribault had one in the first period and two in the second. The Wildcats had one minor in the third period.

Isaac Dale was in goal for the Wildcats, deflecting 8 of 8 shots on goal.

Dodge County was back on their home ice on Saturday, Feb. 20, when they hosted Rochester Mayo. The Wildcats lost a close one by a 6-3 score.

The Wildcats led at the end of the first period 2-0 with two goals by Brody Lamb, assisted by Charlie Blaisdell and Matt Donovan, respectively.

Mayo scored twice in the second period while the Wildcats added their last goal of the game when Matt Donovan got the puck in the net assisted by Brody Lamb. Mayo added two more goals in the third period.

Dodge County had nine minor penalties while Rochester Mayo had five penalties.

Isaac Dale was in goal with nine saves and 13 shots-on-goal.

The Wildcats are currently 7-2-1 on the season. The next game is Friday, Feb. 26, against LaCrescent-Hokah.

Dodge County Wildcats girls team was also in action, dropping a game against Warroad 7-0  on Feb. 12, and coming back to defeat Simley, 2-1, on Feb. 20.

The Wildcats hosted Warroad in a game that saw the visitors dominating the action with four goals in the first period, two in the second and one in the third.

The teams were even in penalties with three minors each.

Sky Hughes was in goal for the Wildcats, saving 48 of 55 shots-on-goal.

They had a better outcome Saturday as they hosted Simley at the Dodge County Ice Arena.

The Wildcats started the scoring in the first period on a goal by McKenna Freerksen with assists from Anna Braun and Katelyn Courteau. Neither team scored in the second period.

The Wildcats and Simley split goals in the third period with Lyndi Schubert scoring at :29 of the third period with an assist from Elizabeth Fagerlind. Simley scored their only goal late in the third period.

The Wildcats had seven penalties in the game and Simley five.

Sky Hughes was in goal with 23 saves on 24 shots-on-goal.

The girls are 7-4-0 for the season with their next game Feb. 25 against Gentry Academy.
