Season winds down for Wildcat hockey teams

Dodge County Wildcat hockey teams moved into their final games over the past week and into this week.

Wildcat Boys Hockey

The boys team was in action at the Graham Arena in Rochester on Thursday, March 11, as they beat Rochester Century by a 4-2 score.

Rochester took the lead at 5:43 of the first period. The Wildcats evened the score at 8:55 in the first period with a goal by Easton Hammill. Century took the lead again at 1:22 of the second period with an even strength goal.

Two goals by the Wildcats in the second period put Dodge County in the lead. At 13:51 Brody Lamb scored assisted by Matt Donovan. James McPeak added a second goal with assists by Connor Preston and Cooper Jacobson.

Matt Donovan scored the final goal of the game at 5:49 of the third period with assists by Brody Lamb and Gavin Giesler.

Both teams had one penalty during the first period while Rochester added a second penalty in the third period.

Isaac Dale was in goal for the Wildcats, deflecting 40 of 42 shots on goal.

They ended the season on Saturday, defeating Waseca 4-0 at the Dodge County Ice Arena.

It was all Dodge County with the Wildcats scoring three times in the first period and once in the third.

Brendon Wolesky scored at 13:08 in the first with an assist by Charlie Blaisdell. Matt Donovan had the period’s second goal at 14:03, assisted by Brody Lamb and Gavin Giesler. Brody Lamb followed up with a goal at 14:37 with assists from Matt Donovan and Ethan Dale.

Following a scoreless second period, Miles Smith wrapped up the scoring with an assist from Connor Preston.

Isaac Dale and Ben Nelson shared goal-tending duties with Isaac Dale on the net for 17 minutes and Ben Nelson for 34. Nelson recording nine saves on nine shots on goal.

The Wildcats finished the season with a record of 14-3-1.

For the season, Brody Lamb led with 34 goals followed by Matt Donovan with 21 goals and Brendon Wolesky was next with 6. Lamb also led in assists with 28, followed by Charlie Blaisdell and Matt Donovan with 18 assists each.

Lamb also led in points scored with 62, followed by Matt Donovan with 39 and Easton Hammill with 21.

Isaac Dale was the wins leader with 11, goals against average leader with 3.07 and save percentage leader with .872.

 

Wildcat Girls Hockey

 

Wildcats girls team traveled to Hutchinson on Saturday, March 6, where they defeated the host team by a 5-0 score.

It was all Wildcats as Dodge County scored once in the first period, three times in the second and once in the third.

Katelyn Courteau got the first score of the game at 1:56 of the first period on a power play assisted by Lyndi Schubert and Anna Braun.

Halle Determan and McKenna Freerksen scored unassisted goals in the second with Freerksen adding a third goal in the period with assists by Anny Braun and Katelyn Courteau.

Nevaeh Trihey finished the scoring in the third period with an assist by Eliza Dinatale.

The teams had two penalties each in the first period with the remainder of the game penalty free.

Sky Hughes was in goal for the Wildcats with 19 saves on 19 shots on goal.

The girls were back in action on March 10 as they took on Minnetonka at the Pagel Ice Arena, losing by a 4-2 score.

Minnetonka jumped out to a 3-0 lead until Dodge County’s Nevaeh Trihey scored at 12:02 in the second period. Elizabeth Fagerlind scored the Wildcats final goal in the third period with assists from Eliza Dinatale and Anna Braun.

Minnetonka had eight penalties in the game to two for the Wildcats.

Sky Hughes was in goal for the Wildcats, with 42 saves on 46 shots on goal.

They were back on the ice on Saturday, March 13, when they lost to Bloomington Jefferson by a 4-2 score.

They were scheduled to meet the Owatonna Huskies on Tuesday, March 16, at the Dodge County Ice Arena for a Section 1AA Play-In game.
