Razorbacks finish 1-3 in Farmington

The Westfield Razorbacks capped a packed week with a 1-3 finish in Farmington, after splitting two duals 1-1 earlier in the week in Janesville.

Westfield has seen its fair share of impressive performances this season; however, injuries and ineligibility have caused holes in the team’s lineups, according to head coach David Lassahn.

“It’s been a battle to put together a full lineup this year, and that has cost us a number of duals. Bo (Zweiner) and Cade (Christianson) both went 4-0 on the day and continue to be leaders for us. Overall, we need to do a better job of finishing matches,” said Lassahn.

Westfield started its day in Farmington with a 54-28 loss to the hosts Farmington in a dual that got away from the Razorbacks early.

The Tigers started out hot with three falls in the opening matches before earning a forfeit at 126 pounds to take a 24-0 lead.

Westfield answered with a major decision from Zwiener at 138 pounds and a fall by Christianson at 145, but the momentum would end there.

After both teams traded forfeits at 152 and 160, Farmington went on to win four of the five remaining matches to take home the sizeable win.

Facing Hastings next, Westfield found itself in a similar situation.

106-pounder Kevin Hodge kicked off the dual with a 12-1 major decision, but three straight falls by Hastings put the Raiders ahead 18-4.

Zwiener and Christianson got the job done again with two falls to win back some points at 132 and 145 pounds, but Hastings went on to take seven of the eight remaining matches — scoring bonus points in every bout.

In the end, the Raiders walked away with a 59-20 lead to move Westfield to 0-2 on the day.

The Razorbacks’ fate would not change in their third dual of the day against New London-Spicer as Westfield would suffer another defeat at 42-27.

Hodge once again opened the dual with a major decision to put his squad up 4-0, but three straight falls by New London-Spicer made the score 18-4.

Both teams traded bonus points from 132 to 152 with New London-Spicer keeping control of the lead at 30-15, but the 15-point gap was too much for Westfield roster to recover from.

Both sides went on to trade fall wins from 160 to heavyweight, keeping New London-Spicer’s lead intact until the final whistle.

Westfield’s last opportunity to take home a win came against Two Rivers, and the Razorbacks did not leave empty-handed after taking down the Warriors 45-36.

This time it was Westfield that jumped out on the offensive early as the Razorbacks built a 27-0 lead behind fall wins by Hodge, Gage Mullenbach, Cannon Wacek and Zwiener, as well as a decision win by Kaiden Chicos.

Two Rivers got 12 points back with two fall wins at 138 and 145, but Christianson and Grant Magnuson erased the Warriors’ progress with two fall wins of their own at 152 and 160 pounds.

Westfield was forced to forfeit at 170 and 182 immediately afterward to make up some ground for Two Rivers to comeback, but a forfeit awarded to Westfield’s Brody Johnson at 195 sealed the win for the Razorbacks.

Earlier in the week, Westfield split two duals with St. Clair/Loyola and WEM/JWP, beating the former 54-30 and losing to the latter 48-34.

Remaining undefeated on the day were Hodge, Zwiener, Christianson and Magnuson.

Westfield will take the mats next in a home dual with NRHEG at Blooming Prairie High School on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m.
