Lady Vikings soar through playoff opener

Hayfield’s softball girls eliminated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, from the Section 1A playoffs, defeating them 8-0, on Monday, May 23.

K-M CHALKS UP WIN OVER AUSTIN

Kasson-Mantorville stole the lead late in the game, in a 5-3 victory over Austin on Friday, May 20. The game was tied at three, with the KoMets batting in the top of the seventh, when Calleigh Richards singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. K-M earned the victory despite allowing Austin to score three runs in the sixth. Gabbie Grover earned the victory

in the circle for the Lady KoMets. She allowed four hits and three runs over six innings, striking out six and walking one. Libby Maxson threw one inning in relief and earned the save.

LADY KOMETS EARN SHUT-OUT VICTORY

Ella Babcock didn’t allow a single run as Kasson-Mantorville defeated Red Wing, 10-0, on Wednesday, May 18. Babcock allowed just one hit. The KoMets got things moving in the first inning, when Gabbie Grover singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Babcock was the winning pitcher. The righty surrendered zero runs on one hit over five innings, striking out four and walking one. Bri Tix took the loss for Red Wing, going five innings, allowing ten runs on ten hits and striking out two. Kasson-Mantorville tallied one home run on the day, by Abby Simons, who put one out in the fifth inning. K-M racked-up ten hits in the game. Grover, Babcock, and McKenzie Rich each managed multiple hits for Kasson-Mantorville. The Lady KoMets were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.
